Pregnancy lossParenting begins at the moment of conception and never ends. The loss of a child at any time is devastating for parents. It does not matter if the child died at 6 weeks into the pregnancy or at 60 years of age--parents still grieve the loss of their child. Parents who have experienced the loss of a baby during pregnancy often do not find support and empathy from others because others are not able to fully understand the devastation. Family, friends and colleagues might even say insensitive comments or completely ignore the fact that a baby lived and died. The challenges faced during this time are painful and complex. Every emotion that is felt after losing a baby is normal, and there is not right or wrong way to grieve. Talking to another person about this experience, though, can help during this emotional and confusing time. Parent on Purpose is committed to supporting parents who have experienced a pregnancy loss through miscarriage or stillbirth. Support is offered in several ways.
Although the pain and loss experienced from losing a baby never completely goes away, healing is possible. Talking about the pregnancy and baby is one of the best ways parents can honor the lives of their children and validate themselves as parents. |
